WordPress Workshop

About activity
I designed a professional development session that focused on teaching participants how to create and customize a WordPress website. I did a pre-assessment survey to gauge participants’ existing knowledge to ensure the session was relevant and practical. The goal was for participants to create a website to showcase their skills and introduce themselves to potential clients or employers. During the session, participants learned about working with cPanel, WordPress, Elementor, and cutting-edge UI and UX principles. The session was designed to be interactive, allowing me to work closely with participants to troubleshoot and customize their websites. Overall, the session aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to create a professional and effective online presence.

Designing survey

I began designing the PD by creating a pre-assessment survey to gather data on participants’ existing knowledge. This allowed me to design an agenda that was relevant and tailored to their needs rather than repeating information they already knew. Dr. Ann-Marie Parkes supervised me in designing more specific questions to ensure the accuracy of the data and prevent participants from skipping or answering questions incorrectly. With this information, I was able to design an agenda that addressed the specific needs of the participants and provided them with a more useful and practical learning experience.

Designing presentation

After analyzing the survey results, I began designing the presentation by identifying the most critical headlines to cover within the two-hour session. I organized the information to ensure a more accurate agenda that covered as much information as possible. Before the session, I reviewed the presentation with Dr. Ann-Marie Parkes to ensure that it met all the requirements and was easy to follow during the session. We also checked for any missing information or data that could be added to make the presentation more informative and valuable, even for participants who were unable to attend the in-person session and only had access to the presentation. By collaborating with Dr. Ann-Marie Parkes, I created a comprehensive and practical presentation for the professional development session.

In-Person presentation

On Apr 6, 2023, I conducted a workshop at the New York Institute of Technology, Vancouver Campus. The session was designed to last 2 hours, with 1.5 hours devoted to interactive learning and the rest for Q&A. During the session, participants learned how to set up a WordPress website and install the necessary plugins and themes to create a basic e-portfolio. Additionally, we discussed and practiced tools for UI/UX design to enhance the e-portfolio’s visual appeal.

Dr. Ann-Marie Parkes observed the teaching process to analyze my teaching and classroom management skills. The workshop was well-received, and the participants actively engaged in the learning process. By the end of the session, everyone had created their own e-portfolio and better understood UI/UX design.

Overall, it was a successful and informative workshop that provided participants with practical skills they could use in their personal and professional lives.
